Congratulations to Corey Bailey! Corey is a former group home kid and has aged out of the foster care system. He was in and out of foster homes and resided at JJF's Cornerstone in Thibodaux for quite sometime.
We first met Corey when he was a freshman at Thibodaux High School. Teachers Coach Putt Bernard, Roxanne Oncale and Cammie Songe found out it was Corey's birthday and gave him a surprise party in their classroom at recess. Corey broke down and cried and said he never had such a celebration before.
This is how JOTS came about---seeing how such a small gesture can bring joy and love!
As a student, Corey had his ups and downs---but in his senior year, he became a leader in football and off the field as well! In the above photo, Corey is leading his senior class in the Alma Mater and fight song, along with Coach Putt and Ms.Cammie Songe
It does take a village to raise a child...and as any foster child who struggles, Corey was blessed with educational mentors, foster parents and a caring community.
Corey attended Nicholls State University for one year and is currently in the U.S. Army.
May God continue to bless and watch over him!
